Poll Watch: Week 9 2017
USF has posted their first loss of the season, breaking the nation leading streak of 12 straight wins and dropping them out of the AP Poll for the first time in 11 months.

The 28-24 loss at the hands of the Houston Cougars was what the media seemed to be waiting for, ever hesitant to accept USF as one of the top teams in the country. The loss proved they weren’t a great team, something voters suspected. But, the loss did something else, it proved that USF wasn’t a bad team, either, as they led the entire game against Houston, losing in the final minute of play. It gave voters the test they wanted to see. USF lost, so they were dropped in rank. However, they will be back with a win over UConn as they currently sit just 24 vote points out of the top 25 in an unofficial 26th ranking. Memphis and UCF are at 22 and 15, respectively.
As has been the case most of the season, the USA Today Amway Coaches’ poll still respects the Bulls.

The last minute loss to Houston didn’t alarm voters in the coaches’ poll as much as it did the AP Poll. The Bulls did drop, from 14th to 23rd, but remain in the top 25. They now trail #14 UCF and #21 Memphis.
As expected, USF dropped in all of the monitored ranking systems. Their high rank outlier, Congrove, went from 9 to 15, a net six spot drop. The low rank outlier, Sagarin, only dropped two ranks from 41 to 43.
