It is June and there is still current athletic activity to report and discuss. The NCAA baseball tournament begins today.
Looking Forward
The USF baseball team will face Bethune-Cookman in the first round of the Gainesville Regional tournament. The tournament is a double elimination structure, consisting of just four teams. Florida is the top seed, followed by #2 USF, #3 Bethune-Cookman, and 4th seed Marist. Marist will face the Gators, today. The regional winner will advance to Omaha to face off with the winners of the other seven Super Regional tournaments.
Baseball America has a full preview of the Gainesville Regional.
USF has announced just one booster event for the summer. USF Summer Stampede will be hosted by men’s basketball head coach, Brian Gregory, and football head coach, Charlie Strong. Ironically, neither of these men has coached a game at USF, being hired to fill postseason vacancies in their respective sports.
Summer Stampede will be held at the Ulele restaurant on June 21st.
USF has released a partial football schedule. The Tampa Bay Times’ Joey Knight notes that they will open their home schedule with a day game for the first time in program history. Five of their six games will be televised to national audiences, with the only exception being the home opener against Stony Brook.
